Introduction

This first level course will equip employees with fundamental occupational health and safety knowledge so that they can contribute to any health and safety management system. There is a clearly structured syllabus, which is assessed by a multiple-choice examination consisting of 30 questions.

How long is the course?

The course will last half a day.

Who is the course for?

The course is aimed at employees who have little or no prior knowledge of current health & safety legislation but need a nationally-recognised certificate.

What are the aims of the course?

To ensure candidates have all the information they need to deal with any health and safety issues they may encounter while at work.

What are the objectives of the course?

To ensure that candidates:

• Play their part in promoting a positive health & safety culture
• Are aware of health & safety issues
• Can complete tasks in a safe and efficient manner
• Understand the Health & Safety at Work Act and the legal responsibilities it places on the employer and employee

What is covered in the course?

• The law relating to health and safety at work
• Using risk assessment to prevent ill health and accidents
• First aid (including personal protective equipment)
• Health, safety and welfare in the workplace - work equipment
• Fire prevention and electricity
• Working with hazardous substances
• Workstation design and ergonomics - manual handling
• Noise and safety requirements

Safety Requirements

Because the course is carried out on site, candidates must strictly adhere to the client’s site regulations and requirements.
